Sweet Banana is one of the most popular varieties of sweet long peppers and is an All-America Selections (AAS) award-winning variety, recognized for its excellent performance, high-quality production, and outstanding flavor in home gardens. It produces long, slightly curved fruits that are light yellow when immature and gradually turn orange and then red when fully ripe.
The plants are strong and productive, typically reaching 45–60 cm in height, and produce a large number of fruits throughout the growing season. The fruits are long and slightly tapered, usually reaching 12–18 cm in length, with smooth skin, crisp flesh, and medium thickness. The plants provide a continuous harvest when fruits are picked regularly.
Sweet Banana is known for its mild, sweet flavor, which becomes sweeter as the fruits mature and change color. It is ideal for fresh eating, salads, stuffing, frying, grilling, and is also an excellent choice for pickling due to its attractive shape and firm texture.
This variety reaches harvest maturity in approximately 60–75 days after transplanting. Fruits can be harvested while they are yellow for a mild, crisp flavor, or left to fully mature for a sweeter taste and red color.
Pepper seeds require warmth and moisture for germination and do not require light during the germination stage. It is recommended to start seeds indoors in seed trays at a depth of approximately 0.5–1 cm, keeping the soil consistently moist until germination, which usually occurs within 7–14 days depending on temperature conditions.
This variety is suitable for growing in Kuwait and Gulf countries during the warm growing season. Seeds are best started indoors in seed trays during August and September, then transplanted outdoors during October and November at the beginning of the growing season. It can also be grown in a spring crop starting from February. Harvest usually begins from December to February for autumn plantings and from April to May for spring plantings, depending on planting time and growing conditions.
Grow in a sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil. Space plants approximately 40–50 cm apart with 60–80 cm between rows. Regular and balanced watering helps maintain strong growth and high production. Continuous harvesting encourages the plant to produce more peppers throughout the season.
