French Breakfast Radish is an heirloom, open-pollinated variety and one of the most popular traditional radish varieties worldwide. It is known for its distinctive elongated cylindrical roots, featuring a bright red-pink upper section with a crisp white tip, giving it an attractive appearance at harvest. It has a crunchy, juicy texture with a balanced radish flavor that is mild with a refreshing hint of heat, making it ideal for fresh consumption in salads, sandwiches, appetizers, and as a garnish.
This variety grows quickly and is ready for harvest within 20–28 days from sowing. It produces uniform roots that reach approximately 7–10 cm in length, with a slender shape that makes them easy to harvest. It also develops good leafy growth that can be used fresh and provides a continuous harvest when planted successively throughout the season.
French Breakfast is well suited for cultivation in the Gulf countries during the agricultural season from October to March. Successional sowing every 2–3 weeks can be carried out to ensure a continuous supply of fresh radishes throughout the season. It performs best in light, fertile, well-drained soil with regular irrigation and grows best in locations receiving direct sunlight.
