Giant Red Beefsteak Tomato is an heirloom, open-pollinated slicing tomato variety renowned for producing exceptionally large, deep red fruits with a classic, rich tomato flavor. The fruits offer a well-balanced sweetness with mild acidity, making them an excellent choice for fresh slicing, sandwiches, burgers, salads, and homemade sauces.
The plants are vigorous and indeterminate, continuing to flower and produce fruit throughout the growing season when supported with stakes or cages. They produce large, slightly flattened fruits with light ribbing, typically weighing 450–900 g (1–2 lb), with some fruits growing even larger under ideal conditions. The flesh is thick, meaty, juicy, and contains relatively few seeds.
This variety reaches maturity in approximately 80–90 days from transplanting. It is well suited to the Gulf growing season. For best results, start seeds indoors from August to September, then transplant seedlings outdoors from October to November. Giant Red Beefsteak performs best in fertile, well-drained soil with full sun and consistent watering.
