Banana Legs is an heirloom, open-pollinated paste tomato variety known for its elongated, bright golden-yellow fruits that resemble small bananas, giving the variety its distinctive name. The fruits have dense flesh with few seeds and a sweet, mild, low-acid flavor, making them excellent for fresh eating, salads, and especially for sauces, cooking, and canning due to their meaty texture and low juice content.
The plants are vigorous and highly productive, producing abundant clusters of uniform fruits measuring 7–10 cm (3–4 inches) in length and typically weighing 70–120 g (2.5–4 oz). This variety reaches harvest maturity in approximately 75–80 days from transplanting and continues producing heavily throughout the growing season, making it an excellent choice for home gardens.
Banana Legs is well suited to the Gulf region. For best results, start seeds indoors during August and September in preparation for the growing season, then transplant seedlings as temperatures become milder. Tomato seeds should be lightly covered with soil to maintain moisture during germination. Grow plants in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil, and provide consistent watering and balanced fertilization to encourage vigorous growth and an abundant harvest of premium-quality fruits.
