Midnight Dreams is an heirloom sweet pepper variety known for its unique and very dark fruit color, which appears almost black. The name Midnight Dreams was inspired by the deep, dark shade of its fruits, resembling the colors of midnight. This variety is valued for its rare and attractive appearance, along with its sweet flavor and crisp texture, making it an excellent choice for home gardens and adding a distinctive touch to dishes.
The plants are strong and compact to medium-sized, typically reaching 45–60 cm in height, and produce a good number of fruits throughout the growing season. The fruits have a blocky or nearly square shape, with relatively thick walls and crisp flesh, providing an excellent texture when eaten fresh or cooked.
Midnight Dreams has a mild, sweet flavor and is ideal for fresh eating, salads, stuffing, grilling, and frying. Its unique dark-colored fruits add a beautiful and unusual appearance to dishes and make it a valuable ornamental and culinary variety in both gardens and kitchens.
This variety reaches harvest maturity in approximately 70–80 days after transplanting and continues producing fruits when harvested regularly, helping provide a continuous harvest throughout the season.
Pepper seeds require warmth and moisture for germination and do not require light during the germination stage. Sow seeds in seed trays at a depth of approximately 0.5–1 cm, keeping the soil consistently moist until germination, which usually occurs within 7–14 days depending on temperature and growing conditions.
This variety is suitable for growing in Kuwait and Gulf countries during the warm growing season. Seeds are best started indoors in seed trays during August and September, then transplanted outdoors during October and November at the beginning of the growing season. It can also be grown as a spring crop starting from February. Harvest usually begins from December to February for autumn plantings and from April to May for spring plantings, depending on planting time and growing conditions.
Grow in a sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil. Space plants approximately 40–50 cm apart with 60–80 cm between rows. Regular and balanced watering helps maintain strong growth and good production. Continuous harvesting encourages the plant to keep producing more peppers throughout the season.
