Burgess Buttercup is an heirloom, open-pollinated winter squash variety and one of the most popular Buttercup types, prized for its outstanding flavor and premium fruit quality. It produces round, flattened fruits with deep green skin and a distinctive button-like blossom end. The dense, deep orange flesh has a smooth texture and a rich, naturally sweet flavor, making it an excellent choice for roasting, baking, soups, and purées.
The plants are vigorous and highly productive, yielding a generous crop of uniform fruits that typically weigh 1–2 kg (2–4 lb). The flesh is rich in dry matter, giving it a creamy texture and exceptional flavor when cooked. Fruits reach harvest maturity in approximately 90–100 days from sowing and have excellent storage quality, maintaining their flavor and texture for an extended period after harvest.
Burgess Buttercup is well suited to the Gulf region. For best results, sow seeds from October to November or in February. Direct sow into fertile, well-drained soil in full sun, and provide consistent watering throughout the growing season to encourage vigorous growth and an abundant harvest of high-quality fruits.
