Habanero Chocolate is a classic heirloom hot pepper variety, distinguished by its small, slightly wrinkled fruits that ripen to a rich, dark chocolate-brown color. The peppers typically measure 4–6 cm across and feature a firm texture, an intense fruity aroma, and a subtle smoky flavor that sets them apart from most other habanero varieties. They deliver an exceptionally high level of heat, ranging from 300,000 to 425,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), making them a favorite among chili enthusiasts.
The plants are vigorous and highly productive, producing abundant, uniform fruits throughout the growing season. This variety performs well in garden beds, raised beds, containers, and greenhouses. With full sun, regular irrigation, and balanced fertilization, it provides excellent growth and consistently high yields.
Its flavorful fruits are ideal for making hot sauces, marinades, dried chili flakes, and chili powder, while adding a distinctive color and deep flavor to a wide variety of recipes.
In the Gulf countries, seeds are best sown from September to November. Seedlings can be started indoors in August or September and transplanted once temperatures become moderate. Harvest usually begins 90–120 days after transplanting, depending on growing conditions.
