Watermelon Beefsteak is an open-pollinated slicing tomato known for its large, flattened fruits with a beautiful pinkish-red color that resembles the flesh of a watermelon, giving the variety its distinctive name. The fruits feature dense, juicy flesh with few seeds and a rich, sweet, well-balanced flavor, making them an excellent choice for slicing and fresh eating.
The vigorous plants produce large fruits that typically weigh 300–700 g (10–25 oz), with some fruits reaching 900 g (2 lb) under ideal growing conditions. They are perfect for fresh salads, sandwiches, burgers, and serving fresh, offering the classic texture and outstanding flavor expected from a premium beefsteak tomato.
The variety reaches maturity in approximately 80–90 days from transplanting. For the best results in the Gulf region, it is recommended to start seeds indoors during August and September, then transplant seedlings outdoors as temperatures become milder in October for vigorous growth and an abundant harvest of high-quality fruits.
