Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) is a perennial aromatic herb with fresh lemon-scented leaves, prized for herbal teas, beverages, salads, and desserts. Growing 40–80 cm tall, it forms a lush, bushy plant that thrives during the cool growing season in the Gulf region.
For Kuwait and Gulf countries, start seeds indoors from August to September for an early season, or sow directly outdoors from October to November. Seeds require light to germinate, so sow them on the soil surface and gently press them into place without covering. Germination typically occurs within 7–14 days at 18–21°C (64–70°F).
Plant in fertile, well-drained soil with regular watering and provide morning sun or bright light with light afternoon shade. Lemon Balm grows well in containers and garden beds, and regular harvesting encourages dense, vigorous growth with a continuous supply of fragrant leaves throughout the season.
