Santo is an organic, open-pollinated cilantro variety known for its vigorous growth and good production of fresh, aromatic green leaves with a distinctive, rich flavor. It is known for its relatively slow bolting, allowing a longer harvest period for fresh leaves compared with many other cilantro varieties. The plants reach harvest maturity in approximately 55–60 days and can be grown in garden beds, containers, or directly in the soil.
Growing Method in the Gulf Region:
Direct sowing is recommended for cilantro, as it does not respond well to root disturbance during transplanting. Santo can be sown from October through February, with successive sowings every two to three weeks for a continuous supply of fresh leaves. Sow the seeds in well-draining soil and maintain consistent moisture. The plants perform best with good sunlight or strong light. Leaves can be harvested gradually as needed, while some plants can be left to mature for seed production.
