Planting Time in the Gulf Region
For the best results, start seeds indoors or in a cool, well-lit location during August for an early start to the season. Transplant outdoors as temperatures become milder. Outdoor planting is recommended from September through November.
Germination
Seeds require light for germination, so sow them on the surface of the soil without covering, or cover only very lightly.
Growing Instructions
Sow seeds in a light, well-drained growing medium and gently press them onto the surface to ensure good contact with the soil. Keep the soil evenly moist until germination, which usually occurs within 10–20 days. Transplant seedlings carefully after they develop several true leaves, spacing plants 20–25 cm (8–10 in.) apart.
