Planting Time in the Gulf Region
For the best results, start seeds indoors or in a cool, well-lit location during August for an early start to the season. Transplant outdoors as temperatures become milder. Outdoor planting is recommended from September through November.
Germination
Seeds do not require light for germination. Cover them lightly with a thin layer of seed-starting mix or vermiculite.
Growing Instructions
Sow seeds in a light, well-drained growing medium and cover them with a very thin layer of soil. Keep the growing medium evenly moist but not waterlogged. Seeds typically germinate within 14–28 days at 20–24°C (68–75°F). Transplant seedlings after they develop several true leaves, spacing plants 25–30 cm (10–12 in.) apart. Grow in full sun to partial shade for the best growth and flowering. Regularly removing spent flower clusters encourages continuous blooming throughout the season.
