Champion Radish is a heirloom, open-pollinated variety and the winner of the 1957 All-America Selections (AAS) Award, recognized for its outstanding quality, rapid growth, and uniform roots. It produces smooth, round roots with a bright scarlet-red skin and crisp white flesh. The flavor is mild with a pleasant balance of sweetness and gentle pungency, making it an excellent choice for fresh salads, sandwiches, and garnishes.
This fast-growing variety reaches maturity in 25–30 days from sowing. The plants produce uniform roots measuring approximately 3–5 cm (1.2–2 inches) in diameter and develop vigorous leafy tops that can also be enjoyed fresh. Champion maintains its excellent texture and quality when harvested at the proper stage, making it a favorite for both home gardens and market growers.
Champion is well suited for cultivation in the Gulf countries during the growing season from October through March. Successive sowings every two to three weeks provide a continuous harvest throughout the season. It performs best in loose, well-drained soil with consistent moisture and should be grown in a location that receives full sun.
