Konasu is a traditional Japanese eggplant variety prized for its small, round fruits with glossy deep purple skin, tender texture, and rich, sweet flavor. It is one of the most popular eggplant varieties in Japanese and Asian cuisine.

The fruits are compact and globe-shaped, measuring approximately 5–8 cm (2–3 inches) in diameter. They feature thin, tender skin and dense, creamy white flesh that readily absorbs seasonings and sauces. With very few seeds, the fruits have a smooth texture and exceptional eating quality, making them ideal for grilling, roasting, frying, pickling, and cooking whole.

Plants are vigorous yet compact, typically reaching 60–90 cm (24–36 inches) in height. They begin producing fruit approximately 60–70 days after transplanting and continue yielding abundantly throughout the season with regular harvesting, which encourages continuous flowering and increased fruit production.

In the Gulf countries, seeds are best started indoors during August and September, with seedlings transplanted outdoors in September and October. A second planting season is also suitable during January and February for a spring harvest before the onset of high summer temperatures.

This variety performs best in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil with regular watering and balanced fertilization. It is an excellent choice for home gardens, raised beds, and large containers, combining high productivity, premium fruit quality, and outstanding flavor for those who appreciate authentic Japanese eggplants.
