Chantenay Red Core is one of the most popular and reliable heirloom carrot varieties. It produces short, broad, cone-shaped roots with a deep orange color that extends to the core. The roots have a firm texture and a naturally sweet, rich flavor, making them ideal for fresh eating, juicing, and cooking. This variety is known for its high yields, uniform roots, and excellent performance in heavier soils where longer carrot varieties may struggle. It is also valued for its consistent quality and easy harvesting.
Planting & Care:
Sow seeds directly in their final growing location at a depth of 0.5–1 cm (¼–½ inch). Transplanting is not recommended, as it may affect root development. Grow in loose, well-drained soil free of stones to encourage smooth, well-shaped roots. Keep the soil evenly moist with regular watering while avoiding overwatering. Remove weeds regularly, and thin seedlings after germination to provide adequate spacing for larger, high-quality roots.
Light Requirements:
Seeds do not require light to germinate and should be covered with soil after sowing. Once established, plants grow best in full sun with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
Planting Season in Kuwait & the Gulf Region:
The best planting time is from September through November, when cooler temperatures promote the development of large, uniform roots with excellent color, sweetness, and quality.
