Di Cicco is a classic Italian heirloom broccoli variety known for producing a medium-sized central head followed by an abundance of tender side shoots after the main harvest, providing an extended harvest season and continuous production. It features dark green florets, tender stems, and a rich, delicious flavor, making it an excellent choice for fresh use, steaming, boiling, and stir-frying.
Planting & Care:
Seeds can be sown directly into the garden or started in seed trays and transplanted after the seedlings develop 4–6 true leaves. Sow seeds at a depth of 0.5–1 cm (¼–½ inch) in fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter, leaving adequate spacing between plants to encourage strong head development. Keep the soil evenly moist with regular watering while avoiding overwatering. Harvest the main head as soon as it reaches a good size and before the flower buds begin to open. This encourages the plant to produce numerous side shoots for continued harvesting.
Light Requirements:
Seeds do not require light to germinate and should be covered with soil after sowing. Once established, plants perform best in full sun with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
Planting Season in Kuwait & the Gulf Region:
Seedlings can be started from September, while the best time for transplanting into the garden is from October through November, when cooler temperatures promote the development of compact heads and abundant side shoots for an extended harvest.
