Early Fall Rapini is a fast-growing broccoli raab variety prized for its tender stems, nutritious green leaves, and small broccoli-like flower buds. Although it resembles broccoli in appearance, it has its own distinctive flavor with a pleasantly mild bitterness. It is widely used in Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, making it an excellent choice for sautéing, steaming, soups, and pasta dishes. This variety is known for its rapid growth and its ability to produce multiple side shoots after the main harvest, allowing for repeated harvesting throughout the season.
Planting & Care:
Seeds can be sown directly into the garden or started in seed trays and transplanted after several true leaves have developed. Sow seeds at a depth of 0.5–1 cm (¼–½ inch) in fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Space plants adequately to encourage healthy growth. Keep the soil evenly moist with regular watering while avoiding overwatering. Harvest the buds while they are still small and tightly closed for the best flavor and quality. Regular harvesting encourages continuous production of side shoots.
Light Requirements:
Seeds do not require light to germinate and should be covered with soil after sowing. Once established, plants perform best in full sun with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
Planting Season in Kuwait & the Gulf Region:
The best planting time is from September through November, when cooler temperatures promote vigorous growth and the production of high-quality leaves, stems, and flower buds.
