Ruby Queen is a premium beet variety known for its smooth, round roots with a rich, deep red color and uniform flesh that retains its vibrant color after cooking. It offers a sweet flavor and tender texture, making it an excellent choice for fresh eating, salads, juicing, cooking, and pickling.
Plants grow to approximately 30–40 cm (12–16 in) tall, producing round roots that reach 7–10 cm (3–4 in) in diameter at maturity. Roots are typically ready to harvest in 55–65 days after sowing, depending on growing conditions.
This variety thrives in full sun but also tolerates partial shade. It performs best in fertile, well-drained soil with consistent watering to encourage smooth, high-quality roots.
Recommended sowing time in the Gulf: Sow seeds from September through February during the cooler growing season. Direct sowing is recommended, as beets do not transplant well. The seeds do not require light to germinate and should be covered lightly with soil while keeping the growing medium consistently moist until germination.
Roots can be harvested once they reach the desired size, while the young leaves can also be harvested and enjoyed fresh in salads or cooked as nutritious leafy greens. Ruby Queen is an excellent choice for home gardens, raised beds, and continuous seasonal production.
