Ellagance Purple Lavender is a distinctive English Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) variety known for its dense, deep purple flowers and strong, attractive fragrance. It has a compact and uniform growth habit, making it an excellent choice for home gardens, containers, and landscape planting, adding beautiful color and a pleasant aromatic scent to outdoor spaces.
The plants produce flowering stems covered with dense clusters of purple blooms, along with narrow silver-green foliage with a pleasant fragrance. Ellagance Purple is known for its relatively early flowering compared to many other lavender varieties. Its flowers can be enjoyed as an ornamental feature or used for drying, dried flower arrangements, and aromatic applications.
In the Gulf countries, it is recommended to start sowing this variety in seed trays during August in a bright, protected location away from direct intense heat, then transplant the seedlings to their permanent location during October and November when temperatures become milder. Sowing can also be started during September to produce seedlings ready for transplanting at the beginning of the growing season.
Ellagance Purple Lavender seeds require light to germinate well, so they should not be buried deeply. Sow the seeds on the surface of the growing medium and gently press them to ensure good contact with the soil. Cover them with only a very thin layer of vermiculite or fine sand, while providing good light during the germination period. Seeds usually require 2–4 weeks to germinate, and germination may occur gradually, so the soil surface should be kept lightly moist without overwatering.
This variety prefers light, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter and should be planted in a location receiving 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Once established, it is best watered deeply when the soil becomes dry rather than with frequent light watering, as lavender prefers well-aerated soil.
Pruning after flowering helps maintain its compact shape and encourages dense, well-organized growth in the following season. Ellagance Purple Lavender is an excellent choice for adding beauty and fragrance to gardens and containers in the climate of the Gulf countries.
